Joe Wills, Director of Public Affairs at the California State University, Chico, has released more information regarding the students involved in a fatal car crash on Bidwell Avenue early Sunday morning.

Wills confirmed today all three students, 20-yer-old Austin Silver, 18-year-old Diego Arriga-Rodriguez, and 19-year-old Bryant Mata were all students at the University. Arriga-Rodriguez and Mata enrolled at Chico State in the fall of 2013. Mata enrolled as a Biology major and Arriga-Rodriguez enrolled into the Mechatronic Engineering program.

Silver, who died at the scene of the crash, was a sophomore studying music industry and technology. Wills also confirmed both Arriga-Rodriguez and Mata succesfully completed the University's mandatory online alcohol education program last semester.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a black BMW driven by Arriga-Rodriguez crashed into the creek near 1720 Bidwell Ave in Chico just before 12:40 a.m. Sunday morning. Both Arriga-Rodriguez and Mata had to extricated from the car and were transported to Enloe Medical Center for major injures. Arriga-Rodriguez was placed under arrest for suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol but was released to the hospital because of the extent of his injuries.

As of Monday afternoon Arriga-Rodriguez and Mata remain in critical condition at Enloe Medical Center.
