Chico Police Officers have called off the search for a reckless driving suspect in the Magnolia Avenue and The Esplanade area just after 11 a.m. The male suspect remains at large.
According to the Chico Police Department, the search for the suspect began around 10:30 a.m. this morning when a Chico Police Officer in his patrol car approached a man in a Lincoln Navigator parked on the wrong side of the road near 8th and Spruce Avenues. As the officer pulled up next to the Navigator, the officer recognized the suspect from a previous encounter and the suspect sped away in his vehicle. The pursuit was called off after the suspect sped through two stop signs.
The Lincoln Navigator was spotted roughly 10 minutes later outside a residence on Laburnum Avenue. A citizen told the responding officer he saw the suspect running southbound on Oleander Avenue.
Responding officers spent the next half-hour following the suspect and establishing a perimeter on Magnolia Avenue, Oleander Avenue, and the Esplanade. Just before 11 a.m. officers conducted a sweep around the apartments on 1154 Esplanade but the suspect was not located, according to the Chico Police Department.
The search for the suspect was called off around 11:10 a.m.
The suspect was described as a male, approximately 5’4” and 130 pounds wearing a dark sweater and a baseball cap. The suspect has yet to be positively identified but is currently wanted for misdemeanor charges of reckless driving. The department also contacted the owner of the Navigator who stated the vehicle was not stolen but they had lent it out to the suspect.
