U.S. Attorney Benjamin Wagner announced today 28-year-old Samuel Thompson of Chico was arrested in Sacramento after a federal grand jury returned an indictment on August 14 charging him with receiving images of child pornography.
The indictment was unsealed the day after his arrest, according to the Department of Justice’s press release.
According to the indictment, between August 2012 and March 2013, Thompson received images of child pornography. Thompson will be arraigned today before U.S. Magistrate Judge Dale Drozd.
If convicted, Thompson faces a statutory penalty of five to 20 years in prison and a $20,000 fine. All sentences are determined at the discretion of the court.
