Many people say Chico has a problem with alcohol.
In 2012 there were more than 1,600 alcohol-related crimes in Chico—accounting for more than a third of the police department’s arrests.
In an effort to reduce those numbers, the City of Chico and the County of Butte will co-host a community alcohol policy workshop aimed at local bars.
Many local bar owners, however, say those numbers are being taken out of context and that officials should focus on the real problem: underage drinking at house parties.
“There are no underage kids dying in bars,” said William Brady. “They’re dying in at house parties; and there’s no way you can stop that from happening.”
This meeting is open to the public and will take place at the Chico Council Chambers Wednesday at 9 a.m.
