According to the California Highway Patrol, Tyler Burrone, 21, of Ft. Jones, California failed to stop on Highway 99 south of Los Molinos. Investigators say Burrone was pulling a truck and horse trailer when he ran into the back of a dark-colored Nissan, driven by Katie Ramsey, 31, of Gerber, California. Ramsey had her wheels turned left as she was prepared to make a left onto Sherman Road. Burrone's truck pushed Ramsey's car into oncoming traffic. Ramsey's car was hit by an oncoming semi, driven by Roderick Abbott, 56, or Medford, Oregon.
Neighbors say they heard the crash, called 911 and rushed to the scene. There say they were able to put out a fire under the Ramsey's car. At least one witness performed CPR on the boy who was a passenger in Ramsey's car, but he passed away.
The CHP says it appears the boy, Gunner Langenderfer, 5, was not in a car seat. Investigators say charges of Misdemeanor Manslaughter are pending against Burrone. They do not suspect drugs or alcohol played a factor in the crash, but are investigating whether he became distracted. The CHP says no charges will be filed against Ramsey or Abbott. Neither man was injured, and they both refused medical treatment at the scene.
