A man was killed after being struck by a car Saturday evening at 5:46 p.m. on Eureka Way and Olive Avenue.

Redding Police say the man was walking with his dog on the north side of Eureka way to the south side of the street that is when the driver of a Ford Taurus struck both the victim and his dog.

Emergency crews responded to the scene where they found the man on the ground and had died at the scene.
The driver 26 year old, Nathaniel Conner from Yreka was evaluated at the scene and it was determined alcohol and drugs did not play a factor in this collision.

The dog was transported to VCA Asher Animal Hospital and is in stable condition and is expected to survive.

Eastbound traffic was diverted into the two-way left turn lane during the road closure.

The name of the man is being withheld pending notification of family.
