If you're seeing some smoke in the Loafer Creek Recreation Area near Lake Oroville, do not be alarmed. Cal Fire is conducting a 120-acre controlled burn there today and tomorrow. Several engines are monitoring the conditions and will postpone the burn if the conditions are found to be unfavorable.

"This control burn will help reduce hazardous fire fuels by removing brush and down woody materials, enhancing the fire safety of the park and surrounding areas." stated Battalion Chief Rob Sonsteng.  "This type of exercise also provides valuable hands-on training for fire personnel in fire suppression activities while working safely in a controlled environment".
