A 12-year-old Chico boy is in the hospital after being hit by a car while riding his bike to school. It happened just before 8 a.m. Tuesday morning on Manzanita Avenue near Howard Drive. Police say the driver of a Ford F-350 pickup was making an illegal left turn onto Howard Dr. when he hit the Bidwell Junior High student. The driver reportedly didn't see the boy, who was riding in the bike lane at the time. Police say the driver had the sun in his eyes and cut the corner while turning to take advantage of a break in traffic. The bicyclist was wearing a helmet, but was taken to the hospital after complaining about pain in his leg. Although the driver of the truck was at fault he won't be facing any charges.
