Bidwell Park is going to the dogs September 28, and well over 1,500 people and their furry friends are expected to converge for the largest pet-friendly community event in Butte County.

The second annual Bidwell Bark Fun Run & Festival on that Saturday runs from 8 a.m. to noon at Sycamore Field in the One Mile Recreation area of Bidwell Park. Event registration and admission are both free, but the Butte Humane Society encourages pre-registering which can be done online at BidwellBark.com.

A 5K run and 2K walk will begin 9 a.m. Chipped timing will be provided for registered participants in the 5K run. Awards will be given to the top three finishers in two divisions: Human and Dog.

Participants will earn prizes for fundraising for BHS which range from t-shirts, goodie bags for those who raise $25, and a new iPad for everyone who raises at least $3,000. Additional prizes and trophies will be awarded to the top individual and team fundraisers, aka “Leaders of the Pack.”

All funds will benefit Butte Humane Society in their adoption, outreach, and spay/neuter efforts. For more information on the event or registration, visit BidwellBark.com
