Some Chico residents are still feeling uneasy a day after their apartment complex was burglarized.
Chico police responded to a report of a burglary at the Lakeview Apartments’ office around 8am Thursday morning.
They learned the suspects broke into the office.
Lakeview told Action News Now the alarm didn't sound because they didn't break though any doors.
Lakeview also said the thieves broke the lock to the key cabinet, and took a ring of master keys.
Police learned the thieves hit six apartments using those keys while residents were inside.
Five victims slept right through it, and one woke to the sounds of someone running from his apartment.
One day later, residents are still on edge about what happened. And frustrated more information wasn't shared.
Danielle Davis found out from her parents.
“They didn't tell us anything about it. Didn't tell us whose apartments were broken into. So it's kind of scary to find out from a third party,” Davis said.
One resident, Stephanie Cyphers, didn't even know until Action News Now told her today.
“I normally do leave my door unlocked but I'm going to stop doing that,” she said.
Lakeview said they will be getting a new alarm and key system. They also changed out locks where needed yesterday.
In the meantime, residents will be on guard.
“Just closing my window, and like always, locking the door,” resident Markie Fitzgerald said.
A few hours after the initial call, Chico police found two men who had some of that stolen property. They're now booked in the Butte County Jail.
